The night after Money in the Bank, HHH came out and informed Mr. McMahon, while he was engaged in talking with John Cena, that he is relieved of his duties for WWE by the board of directors and they appointed HHH as the chairman of WWE to takeover the responsibility of day to day operations of WWE.
